Teachers College Reading and Writing Project's Writing ContinuumUsing a continuum for assessing your students' writing can help you and your colleagues determine the next steps students need to take. The Teachers College Reading and Writing Project provides an example continuum for narrative (complete), opinion, and informational writing. The continuums include both descriptors of the writing and demonstration texts. You and your colleagues might choose to adopt these continuums or perhaps create your own schoolwide continuums. Engage New York Common Core Video SeriesThe Engage New York Common Core video series provides further insight into the 6 instructional shifts of the ELA Common Core. The videos include (but are not limited to) the following topics; balancing informational text and literature, building knowledge in the disciplines, text complexity, text-based answers, writing from sources, and academic vocabulary.

ASCD- Educore Common Core ToolThis site provides a large library of videos and documents that provide teachers with the structure for creating student tasks in literacy. Teachers that adopted this structure for designing tasks have started sharing the tasks they've creatd to date. There are now banks of available teacher-created tasks for argumentative and informational writing. In addition to the task-based resources, the site also provides supplemental and related resources that could be used to introduce the Common Core.
